Question by Glynn: How can I dispose of my old mattress?
I have called two different charity services and neither of them can take the mattress. Will the trash service pick it up when they come on Wednesday morning? Or will they leave it? I need to get rid of it as soon as possible. It’s an old, dirty box and spring mattress. So, two large, ugly pieces. Help!

You had better call your trash company, they may have special days for picking up big stuff. The rubbish man will not take it. There will also probably be a fee.
This is a question that many people ask. It is unfortunate because many people can use them who do not have any.. but it is this thing about sleeping on something that someone else has slept on and it turns off MOST people.. Thus, the ONLY way to dispose of them is to dispose of them.. In MOST areas, the garbage people come by for special items about once a month or once every 2 months or so.. Find out what that schedule is in your area and put it(the mattress) out during that time period… OTHERWISE.. take it to the local dump yourself but you may have to pay a fee to use the dump if you do it yourself.
well, if you live out in the country, you could always, just break the box down use it for fire (controlled), and then throw the mattress it in…..then after you can dig through the ashes, get the springs and recycle them and get some money for your old mattress
